1. The Weight and Hand Feel
This is the first thing you notice when you hold a real vintage tee. It's not papery thin, and it's not stiff. It's that specific soft-but-substantial weight — a mid-weight cotton that's been washed enough times to break in perfectly. Our tees are specifically sourced with that end-state in mind: soft on arrival, better with every wash.
2. The Graphic Placement and Scale
Vintage tees almost never centre-chest their graphics perfectly. The placement is a little high, or the graphic bleeds slightly wider than you'd expect. It's intentional-looking but human. Modern mass-produced tees get this wrong constantly — everything is too precisely centred, too safe. A genuine vintage piece has personality in its placement.
3. The Colour Palette
Faded, muted, slightly sun-bleached. Vintage colour palettes don't pop aggressively off the shirt — they sit into the fabric. Burnt oranges, dusty blues, off-whites, washed blacks. If a graphic looks like it belongs on a phone case from 2019, it's not vintage. If it looks like it was screenprinted in a garage in 1993, you're onto something.

4. The Reference
This is maybe the most important one. Great vintage tees reference something specific — a tour date, a local business, a promo campaign, a film tie-in, a game release. They feel like they were made for a moment, not for general consumption. Our 80s Japanese McDonald's Promo tee? That's the energy. The Budweiser vintage black? Same deal. The reference should feel obscure enough to reward recognition.
5. The Story You Build Around It
The best vintage tees spark conversation. Someone spots your Sopranos Bada Bing tee across a bar and the whole evening opens up.
